Kei Mouth

Kei Mouth

The lovely seaside holiday village of Kei Mouth is situated on the Southern banks of the Great Kei River which marks the boundary of the former Transkei homeland and Wild Coast.

Kei Mouth and nearby Morgan Bay play host to several events during the December holidays that range from music festivals and firework shows, to craft markets, beach volleyball and beach touch rugby tournaments.

Kei Mouth has several sandy beaches, warm hospitality, good fishing and many activities to offer.  The Kei Mouth Country Club has a 12-hole links golf course, bowling green and squash courts. Other activities and attractions include horse riding, a game reserve just outside of town, several easy coastal hikes, a popular surf spot, ski-boat launch site and bird watching spots.

Kei Mouth is also home to the 'Pont', one of South Africa's two remaining car-transporting pontoon river ferry services. The Pont carries vehicles, passengers and livestock across the Great Kei on a daily basis and the trip is an unforgettable experience.

Huberta, the famous Hippo, took up residence in the Kei River just above third cave in 1930. She was eventually chased off and continued her journey southward once more.

There are several accommodation options available such as B&B's, Guesthouses, Self Catering cottages and camping at the municipal campsite. There are also a few restaurants and bars, two small supermarkets and a service station.
